The University of Twente is a research university where technical developments and their importance to individuals and society are at the forefront.This is reflected in the Bachelor's and Master's programmes that are administered by five faculties: Engineering Technology (ET), Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EWI), Science and Technology (TNW), Behavioural, Management & Social Sciences (BMS), and the one that accomodates the MSc. Cartography, the faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC).

The main campus of the UT is at the edge of Enschede in a green setting. The building where the ITC is located is close to the centre of Enschede, as well as the ITC International hotel, where MSc Cartography students are housed.
