The Alte Mensa (Old Dininghall) is the largest canteen on the central campus. Being one of the first student residences in Germany, the Alte Mensa on Mommsenstraße was opened on November 15, 1925. The Alte Mensa underwent extensive reconstruction and was officially reopened on January 15, 2007. Since then it has regained its status of being a central location of student life, as well as representing the main culinary artery in the heart of the campus.
