Adobe Acrobat Reader for
PDF-files
PDF
(Portable Document Format) is a file format that can contain all elements
of a printed document as an electronic image that you can view, navigate,
print, or forward to someone else. These files can also contain animations
(generated as Shockwave or Quicktime files) or other interactive features.
The PDF-files can be created with the Adobe Acrobat software, which has
to be purchased from Adobe. With the Acrobat Reader plug-in, which is
available free of charge, you can view and use the files within your WWW-browser.
Shockwave
Macromedia
developed a series of multimedia players (Flash, Director and Authorware)
with different capabilities under the common name Shockwave. Shockwave
has become especially popular for interactive games which can be played
over the WWW. To create Shockwave-files you need the Macromedia Director
editing program. A collection of Shockwave-Flash files that demonstrate
the wide range of capabilities can be found here.
Be sure to have the Shockwave-Flash
plug-in installed.
Quicktime
Quicktime
is a multmedia player created by Apple, capable of integrating still and
moving images, and sound, but without the interactive functionality of
Shockwave plug-ins.
