Aim:
To introduce students of the short course on Web
Cartography (WEB.5) to the basics of HTML and (im)possibilities of the
use of graphics on the web.
Objectives:
At
the end of this course, participants should:
- understand
the basics of HTML;
- be
able to build a simple page for publishing on the Internet;
- know
the most common used graphic file formats;
- understand
the relation between resolution, used colours,file size and download
time of images.
Materials and equipment:
Since you are able to view these pages, it will
be obvious you have a Personal Computer at your disposal. Further you
will need:
- A
very basic text editor (Notepad (MicroSoft) or SimpleText (Apple Macintosh))
- The
images, to be saved locally.
- The
browser you are using now.
Time needed:
Approximately 4 hours
Introduction:
This short course is subdivided in 10 steps.
All steps have exercises included, except for the last two steps. It is
strongly recommended to do all the exercises.
